Celebrating Chartered Success – an interview with Alan Peck, Technical Compliance Lead

In our commitment to fostering excellence within our team, we think it’s so important as a business to support our staff through career progression and opportunities for upskilling. We’ve had many dedicated employees investing their time in refining their skills through training and acquiring new qualifications to further enhance the support we offer to our customers and partners.

Alan Peck, our accomplished Technical Compliance Lead, recently reached a significant milestone in his career growth by achieving Chartered status with the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH).

We sat down with Alan to delve into his journey at IPSL and discuss his significant achievements:

Tell us a bit about your role at IPSL.

“As the Technical Compliance Lead at IPSL, I play a pivotal role within the assurance services division, but my main role is being a Safety, Health and Environment Manager across a number of healthcare projects within the business.

“My responsibilities include supporting the operational teams with any queries around health and safety, contributing to compliance surveys on PFI projects, and ensuring the highest safety standards are upheld throughout the business and on our PFI projects.

“I’ve worked at IPSL and Semperian Group for 8 years altogether and it’s a brilliant business to work for because they care for their employees and invest a lot into training and development. I was recently promoted in May from SHE advisor to my current role, which feels great to have my hard work and dedication be recognised by the company.”

What does a typical week in your department look like?

“There’s no such thing as a typical week in the Health, Safety and Environment department – every day is different, and that’s what makes it interesting!

“But some of the sort of things we handle regularly include providing advice and support surrounding health and safety, from our operational teams on PFI projects, conducting compliance reviews, assisting with reviewing fire door reports and working with facility management teams on health and safety matters.

Why was it important for you to be IOSH chartered?

“Being IOSH chartered is the pinnacle of a health and safety professional’s career, and I now have that badge which is a visual representation of how much time I’ve dedicated into understanding the field.

“It underscores my commitment to promoting health and safety as a fundamental aspect of everyday life, not just during working hours. I want to provide support, advice and champion health and safety within the business and on our PFI project sites.

“IPSL aims to have the best people at the forefront of the business, delivering exceptional service to our clients, and this qualification shows our current and future customers that members of our team are dedicated to the aims of the business.”

What’s next for you and your role now you’ve achieved chartered status?

“I have my fire risk assessors’ course in February which will enable me to carry out fire risk assessments for our internal business in line with the current legislation.

“Beyond that, I’m considering pursuing a master’s degree in health and safety so I can deliver the knowledge and skills that our customers demand and hopefully progress my career at IPSL.”
