Roof Renovation Project with King’s Leadership Academy

Project Overview

King’s Leadership Academy has been a beacon of education for its community for years, but the school faced a significant challenge when it became apparent that the deteriorating roof was jeopardising its ability to provide a safe learning environment.

The problems with the roof meant that there were areas of the school that were unusable for students and teachers, and the deterioration was putting strain on the rest of the school and its future safety.

Working with City Building Engineering Services, a local business run by local qualified roofers, IPSL successfully managed and constructed a new roof for the school across a 35 week period.

Key Challenges

The biggest challenge of this project was that the school remained operational while the roofing renovation was ongoing. This required careful planning and execution to minimise disruptions to classes and ensure the safety of the staff and students.

The project extended through the winter months, where adverse weather conditions could significantly impact progress.

Solutions Delivered

The roofing renovation was carried out in a phased manner to minimize disruption to the school’s operations. Sections of the roof were tented off with a top hat and sheet over the scaffold to allow work to continue while classes were in session, as well as internal crash decks and wind ties installed before the removal of the old roof to ensure students and staff remained safe and dry.

Skilled roofing professionals were brought in to retrofit the old roofing system with modern, energy-efficient materials, ensuring that the school building was brought up to current standards for safety and comfort. This not only provided access to previously inaccessible rooms due to flooding, but also enhanced the overall safety and functionality of the school.

The successful renovation of King’s Leadership Academy roofing not only preserved a valuable educational institution but also improved the overall learning environment. With access to previously flooded areas and a more energy-efficient building, the school is now better equipped to fulfil its mission of providing quality education to its community for years to come.

Julie McFarlane from IPSL said “We are delighted that we were able to successfully complete the installation of the new roof for King’s Leadership Academy. This project presented us with several significant challenges, particularly the need to keep the school operational during the 35-week construction period, including the unpredictable winter months.

“Through meticulous planning, we were able to minimise disruptions while ensuring the safety of the school’s staff and students.

“By phasing the renovation and implementing safety measures such as top hats, crash decks, and wind ties, we not only preserved this valuable educational institution but also enhanced its overall learning environment. We take pride in knowing that our work has contributed to the school’s ability to continue providing quality education to its community for years to come.”
